In recent times we already know that most of the computer got affected by a new virus known as “Ransomware” virus targeting the Microsoft Windows operating system. The attack started on Friday, 12 May 2017, infecting more than millions of computers in several countries, with the software demanding ransom payments in the cryptocurrency Bitcoin.
The attack affected Telefónica and several other large companies in Spain, as well as parts of Britain’s National Health Service (NHS), FedEx, Deutsche Bank, and LATAM Airlines and many more.
Hackers attacked thousands of organizations this week in as many as 99 countries across the world. Ransomware stops you from using your PC. It holds your PC or files for “ransom”. All system files being encrypted and can not be used anymore otherwise de-encrypt with proper tools.
Protection of Ransomware:
Individual safety cautions are necessary right now to protect against this types of threat. For safety purpose, please find below instructions and take necessary cautions from your end:
1. Do not open attachments from unknown senders’ emails. Any types of attachment may harmful like Excel, PDF, JPG.
2. Create backup copies of your files and keep them in a remote storage
3. Install antivirus and keep up to date. If there is no other purchased, use free windows antivirus like Microsoft Security essential, Avast, Eset.
4. Keep your operating system, antivirus software and other applications up to date.
Like previous ransomware, the attack spreads by phishing emails. If you find any email from an unknown source or an email attachment with .exe extension from any unknown source, please do not open that file. In this case you are advised to delete these kind of email. Moreover, you are advised to keep backup of your valuable document.
